August 2008, Boston, MA…For 10 years, Executive Chef Jay Murray has been using local farmer, Pio Angelini’s tomatoes almost exclusively. “They are round, red, unassuming except when extremely large and defy logic as to why they are the finest tomatoes I have ever tasted. It must be the terroir,” jokes Murray.  “I inherited a sort of Caprese Salad when I began at Grill 23 that was a yearlong menu item, but following that first tomato season, I knew it was finished. Never again would we serve any other tomato.”

To celebrate these luscious tomatoes, Executive Chef Jay Murray presents a 4-course menu with wines paired by Wine Director Alex DeWinter for $65 on Tuesday August 12 at 6:00 pm in the Fairfield Suite on the second floor; a part of the new Private Dining addition just opened in May 2008 overlooking the also all-new exhibition kitchen. 

According to General Manager, Jason Babb; over the past several years Grill 23 has been answering the question “When does the tomato salad return?” by regulars.  The Marinated Tomatoes with African Budding Basil and Rawson Brook Chèvre Croquette ($14) has become a favorite among those in the know, and gets several return visits in its too short lived stay on the menu during August and early September.  Rest assured, it will return on August 12 as well.
